EMU Turf Field

Expanding EMU's turf sport field for modern functionality
Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) aimed to redevelop its existing turf sport field, creating a functional and modern space that meets regulatory requirements.
Colman Engineering collaborated with EMU and CHA to deliver a civil site design plan approved by the City of Harrisonburg. Beginning with a thorough site survey and geotechnical investigation, the team gathered zoning, utility, and topographic data to ensure informed decision-making. The conceptual design phase produced a site layout addressing stormwater management, utilities, and grading, which was refined through preliminary and final design phases.
The final plan set included detailed layouts for demolition, stormwater BMPs, erosion control, and lighting, ensuring compliance with city requirements. Post-approval services included permitting documents, a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and BMP certification. Construction administration support ensured smooth project execution, with site inspections and milestone reviews.
The redeveloped field now stands ready to serve EMU’s athletic needs, reflecting a commitment to quality and precision.
