Gift & Thrift Expansion

Gift & Thrift Expansion

Taking an aesthetic approach to capturing, detaining, and treating stormwater

Gift & Thrift needed to expand its thrift store location, but this required a full site redevelopment to accommodate parking and stormwater management compliance. The six-acre site and its requirements were both restrictive, with little space to expand.

Colman Engineering designed water quality and quantity BMPs that integrate with the expanded building and its new parking lot. This included an attractive bioretention facility within the new courtyard, as well as three bioretention facilities distributed throughout the parking area.

They also reconfigured an existing pond to provide stormwater detention for the entire site as well as to route offsite runoff entering the site.

The distributed BMPs provided the space required for parking, as well as a significant attenuation of stormwater runoff from the site. This approach also contributed to Gift & Thrift’s ongoing efforts toward sustainability.
