Exploring site feasibility to support the future of CDL training at Laurel Ridge Community College

Laurel Ridge Community College (formerly Lord Fairfax) sought to explore the feasibility of relocating its Commercial Driving License (CDL) training range to the Middletown campus. The proposed project involved redeveloping the existing track and soccer field, upgrading access drives for tractor-trailer use, and addressing site grading and stormwater management requirements.

Colman Engineering partnered with Laurel Ridge to deliver a civil site feasibility study. The project began with a topographic survey and drone flight to create an accurate basemap of the site’s existing conditions. Using this foundation, the team developed a conceptual site design that included a preliminary layout for the access drive, parking, and CDL range features. Grading, stormwater management, and lighting considerations were integrated into the design.

The study concluded with a detailed engineer’s cost estimate, enabling Laurel Ridge to visualize the project’s potential and secure funding for development.
